Music Ministry

The Cathedral Music Ministry contributes to the prayer life of the parish community by providing music for liturgical services of the parish and the Archdiocese of Hartford.

cathedral choir

Under the direction of Dr. Jeffrey Douma, the Cathedral Choir comprises both volunteer and professional singers. Repertoire is drawn from all stylistic periods and a variety of cultural traditions. Rehearsals are held on certain scheduled Thursday evenings 7:30-9:30 PM from September to June. Weekend obligations are Sundays from 9:00 AM-12 PM with rehearsal at 9:00 and Mass at 11:00. Auditions are not required for volunteers, but the Choirmaster will hear individuals in order to assess ability and make appropriate part assignments.

cathedral children's choir

The Cathedral Children's Choir comprises CCD students, and any other children who may choose to join. Rehearsals are 9:30-10 AM, Sunday mornings. The Children's choir sings at the 11 AM Mass on the fourth Sunday of every month, and at The Ceremony of Lessons and Carols. All are welcome!

archdiocesan choir

The Archdiocesan Choir is comprised of choir members from throughout the archdiocese. Rehearsals are usually the second Tuesday of the month and are scheduled to run from 7:30-9:45 PM. This choir sings at major Archdiocesan functions, such as Ordinations and Confirmations, and Lessons and Carols. Auditions not needed for admittance into choir, but the Choirmaster may hear individuals in order to assess vocal part placement.

ARCHDIOCESAN CHILDREN'S CHOIR

The Archdiocesan Children's Choir comprises interested children from the Archdiocese. The schedule will be available in September. Please call the Music Office of the Cathedral for further information.

BRASS ENSEMBLE

The Quiet City Brass Ensemble is in residence at the Cathedral. Considered by many critics as the area's premiere ensemble, they are professionals who also perform with the Hartford Symphony. The Quintet plays at all major events in the Cathedral. The performers include; Scott Cranston, Larry Gareau, Robert Hoyle, Jay Lichtmann, and Stephen Perry.

CATHEDRAL SCHOLA CANTORUM

This is a Chamber Choir comprised of mostly professional singers who perform occasionally during Mass.

SOLI DEO GLORIA ORCHESTRA

In residence for special occasions at the Cathedral, this ensemble comprises some of the finest professional musicians in Connecticut.

VISITING CHOIRS

JOYFUL SOUNDS

During the year, parishes with good youth music programs are encouraged to have their Youth Ensembles come to the cathedral to sing at the Vigil Mass on Saturday afternoons.
