Bonnie Pepper - Cantor

Exhilarating, dramatic, lovely and clear are some of the adjectives used to describe the voice of Bonnie Pepper.  Ms. Pepper is an accomplished performer of opera, and has performed frequently in concert, chamber music and recital, as well as musical theatre.  Her versatility also encompasses her singing for the Archdiocese of Hartford, where she has been the cantor for seven years at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph. Bonnie cantors the masses and special events at the Cathedral and throughout the Archdiocese, and is also a section leader in the Cathedral, Archdiocesan and Gospel Choirs. Ms. Pepper is an active free-lance soloist and has sung the roles of Musetta, Gilda, Gretel, Dorine, Sa Femme, Patience, Nanetta, Tchiakovsky’s Iolanta and Christine from “Phantom of the Opera”, to name a few.  Ms. Pepper holds Master’s degrees from The Florida State University and Yale University in both Opera and Voice, and has sung in throughout the United States, Europe, South America and Canada.  Ms. Pepper has performed with the Connecticut Opera, the Hartford Symphony, the West Hartford Symphony Orchestra, the Bristol Symphony, the Waterbury Symphony, Esse Est Percipi of Hartford, the Yale Philharmonia, Michigan Opera Theatre and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.  She has been a finalist and winner in the Metropolitan Opera Auditions, the International MacAllister Competition and NATS Competition. Ms. Pepper is an active performer on local projects, and was most recently a featured soprano soloist in Bach’s Magnificat at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph. Ms. Pepper teaches music at the Montessori Magnet School in Hartford, maintains a private voice studio and is the voice faculty at the Middlesex Academy of the Performing Arts.
