The Most Reverend Henry J. Mansell, D.D.
Fourth Archbishop of Hartford
The Most Reverend Henry J. Mansell was born on October 10, 1937 in New York City and attended SS. Peter and Paul School in the Bronx and the Cathedral Preparatory Seminary in New York City. He earned a bachelor's degree from St. Joseph Seminary in Yonkers in 1959. Archbishop Mansell attended the North American College and the Gregorian University in Rome, Italy, where he earned a Licentiate in Sacred Theology in 1963. He did postgraduate work at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. After ordination he served as a parish priest in various parishes in New York City and Westchester County, then was appointed Director of the Office of Parish Councils in 1972. In addition to serving on the first Archdiocesan Board of Catholic Education and on the Council of Conciliation for the Archdiocese of New York, he was appointed Vice Chancellor in 1985, Director of Priest Personnel, and three years later, was appointed Chancellor of the Archdiocese of New York. He was appointed auxiliary bishop of New York by Pope John Paul II in November 1992 who ordained him a bishop in Rome on January 6, 1993. Bishop Mansell was installed as the twelfth Bishop of Buffalo on June 12, 1995 where he served until being named Archbishop of Hartford.

The Reverend Monsignor John J. McCarthy

Reverend Monsignor John J. McCarthy graduated from Yale University (B.A.), and The University of Chicago Law School (J.D.), has served in the military and practiced law for six years. He then entered the seminary and attended the North American College and the Gregorian University in Rome where he received a Bachelor of Sacred Theology Degree. Monsignor McCarthy pursued graduate studies in canon law at The Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome where he received a doctorate in canon law.
Monsignor McCarthy was ordained to the priesthood on July 20, 1984. He has served as interim Parochial Vicar at St. Francis Parish, Naugatuck, Parochial Vicar at Saints Peter and Paul Parish, Waterbury, Adjutant Judicial Vicar and Judicial Vicar for the Metropolitan Tribunal of the Archdiocese of Hartford and Pastor of Resurrection Parish in Wallingford. Monsignor McCarthy has served as Rector of the Cathedral of Saint Joseph and Chancellor of the Archdiocese since 2005. He is also the Promoter of Justice, for the Metropolitan Tribunal of the Archdiocese of Hartford.
